Crash (Ubuntu)

Tribler was working fine, now I get the Python error "Segmentation Fault" (Core Dump) after about 30 seconds of Tribler being loaded.

I don't know if it's of any significance, but this is only since I have downloaded a afile.

Wow, a Segmentation Fault. That is not nice.

Can you perhaps provide us with detailed info of you OS and Tribler version (latest V4.1.7?)

Perhaps this will also remove the issue: https://www.tribler.org/faq#Triblerwontstartagain

    Tribler Greetings, Johan.

I downloaded this .deb package; Tribler 4.1.8 for Linux (Ubuntu package)

      cn9ne@cn8ne:~$ uname -a Linux cn8ne 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jan 31 22:39:18 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux cn9ne@cn8ne:~$ tribler Using python2.5 Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I'm on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, I thought it shouldn't be the problem though.

I will try to compile the source, and will update you.

There's a chance this segfault is caused by the vlc video player. Do you get it when trying to play a video in/from Tribler?

I'm getting the same problem. Only on ubuntu hardy heron. Tribler just closes a few seconds after starting, no error message or anything. I installed it via synaptic. The version is 4.1.9

Is I run it from the terminal I see this message:

    $ tribler Using python2.5

And a few seconds later it just closes, and I'm back to $.

I have the same problem here. Tribler just kept closing itself a few seconds after it's started. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I installed via synaptic on ubuntu hardy heron (I added "deb http://ubuntu.tribler.org gutsy main" as suggested on tribler's website).

Has anyone find a way to solve this problem?

I just tried installing 4.1.9 on our clean, up-to-date hardy install and cannot reproduce the problem. This is an i686 install. We have seen problems on Ubuntu for x86_64. What are you using? Please submit a bug report and add the /tmp/*-tribler.log file.

I use old laptops (Dell Latitude C600 - Pentium3 with 256MB RAM) to try this. Actually, they are all running xubuntu 8.04. They are now located in a local lab environment (no connection to the Internet).

I tried to run tribler as a normal user as well as root (sudo) and got the same error output in /tmp/*-tribler.log for both users on all machines:

Tribler: Version check failed Wed Jul 23 11:38:19 2008 [Errno socket error] (-2, 'Name or service not known')

This just means that Tribler couldn't contact our webserver to check for updates. This is not fatal. You can disable it by editing tribler.py to see if it makes a difference.
